Hedges is an infidel who is literate enough to put his thoughts into words. He does not know God, does not believe the Bible, does not understand truth, and has none of the faith that God gives to people he redeems.
I read as much of chapter one as I could stand. It is obvious that Hedges has a deep hatred for God and his written word, and of those who believe what the Bible says. He is threatened by the whole business.
I can't imagine how anyone could benefit from Hedges writings. Reading him might encourage an infidel to continue in his/her infidelity, but for anyone else, reading him seems a bad use of time.

Yeah, calling him an infidel really undermines his argument about growing fascism, doesn't it?

Fascism Accurately Defined for Anyone with the Ability to Watch a Saturday Morning Cartoon:
Is that your favorite cartoon? No pictures of beheadings? No pictures of planes flying into buildings? George Bush is the biggest Fascist in the world? No women in burka’s? You are delusional. You should cut back on your cartoons.
Maybe you should send your cartoon to Mexico, so they will be afraid to come to the U.S. The Mexicans seem to be unaware of the awful persecution going on at the hands of the Fascist Bush administration. The Mexicans all want to come to the U.S. Persecution of the innocent is everywhere. The Mexicans need to be warned, before they arrive and are sent to a concentration camp for mass execution.

While I did not agree with everything Hedges wrote, I do believe he is dead-on in regards to the dangers of the radical Christian Right (and their idolatry) as well as his description of the theological corner that biblical literalism and inerrancy paints itself into.

Wm:
Your "argument" is one of passion, and nothing more. You resent people pointing out the errors of the US and its current administration, and yet the only defense you can offer amounts to "muslims do worse," and "Mexicans are taking up illegal residence in the US, so we must not be that bad if they still want to come here."
How do either of these statements refute anything from chapter one of Hedges` book or from the flash animation linked above?
They don`t.
Gary:
"I can't imagine how anyone could benefit from Hedges writings."
Dudley Field Malone said, "I have never in my life learned anything from any man who agreed with me."
In addition, it seems to me that the "hatred" Hedges has "for God and his written word, and of those who believe what the Bible says," is little more than your imagination. I don`t think it`s a stretch to say that your own comments on Hedges are more impassioned and inflamatory than the entirety of Hedges` comments on dominionists from the first chapter of his book.
In addition, calling Hedges an "infidel," and demonstrating something akin to a "disdain for intellectuals" a la the flash, doesn`t exactly help your "case."

Atheist,
Is Hedges a Bible beliver and friendly to Christians? Prove it.
Disdain for intellectuals? Hedges is an intellectual? Based on what evidence? That he can write in complete sentences?

Ath, Gary really likes to call people "infidels." It seems to be one of his favorite things. I am not sure where he got that word, but he uses it often.
